Steve Parkhouse

Steve has been a stalwart of the Bristol music scene for many years now. Running a small local record label ''Jelli Records'', and presenting a Bristol Music show on BCFM (Bristol Community radio) promoting local Musicians.

He also manages several local artists, runs stages at several Bristol Music festivals and was named Roots Music personality of the year in 2006, by Venue Magazine.

For the last few years he has ran club nights at several venues including the Bristol Folk House, which closed last year. This year he will be working at the World Famous St Georges in Bristol, as Concert manager.

1) Steve you've been active in promoting roots and acoustic music in and around Bristol for sometime now, how did you get into it?

I Started putting on live music nights at the Bristol Folk House about 11 years ago.  My first night consisted of an audience of 5 people, My parents, wife and daughter were Four of them. But I persevered and The Folk House became a nationally and internationally Famous Acoustic Music venue where people came to listen to Quality Live music made up of Local and National acts

2) Do you think much has changed in the live scene since then, there seems to be alot more interest in live music?

I think that the live music scene is constantly changing and people over the last few years have started to go out more to listen to live music which can be a worthwhile experience if the performance and the sound quality at the venue are both good.

3) Have developments on the web like Myspace and Youtube made it easier to promote your shows?

Myspace and Youtube has opened up a whole new way of promoting live music concerts and getting people to hear music that they would have never come across before.

4) What has impressed you most in 2007?

Two Bristol based artists Jane Taylor and Beth Rowley come to mind. Both have had National radio play and are Both heading in the right direction. And they are lovely people who work very hard in their chosen profession.

5) What's on the agenda for 2008?

2008 looks like being a very exciting year for me. I start a new venture working at the World famous Music venue St Georges here in Bristol.

The Record label ''Jelli Records'' www.jellirecords.com I run in partnership with a Great musician Jhassi Elliott has major plans, I hope to continue my Bristol music show on
