Moonrakers

Moonrakers is an Oxford-based multi-instrumental trio playing Celtic traditional music and some original tunes and songs in the idiom. We play harp, flute, cittern, guitar and whistles and sing in close harmony with male and female voices. The overall sound has a rich texture of melody and counter-melody, described by BBC Oxford as "an exquisite blend of relaxing music". The band's trademark sound is unusual arrangements, ranging from the simple beauty of O'Carolan tunes to the more complex instrumental interplay of several dance tunes.

Much of the material is drawn from the traditions of the Celtic lands - Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. When playing in concert, the band will explain some of history and origins of the music.

Moonrakers will, as a special commission, compose an original tune for your event. You may like the idea of having your very own 'Wedding Tune' or 'Anniversary Tune'. We can make a CD recording and a framed transcript of the tune as a gift and memento of the occasion.
