Country music gets a raw deal in this country. That old joke about playing a country album backwards and hearing songs about getting your house back, your girl back and your job back is well worn and not very funny. If you share this negative view of country music then now is time to come in from the cold, Maureen Munroes new album A Thousand Miles, is a good place to start.
Maureen Mixes Country, Folk, great lyrics and strong melodies. When you mix this with her sensuous vocals you have a fine blend indeed. The intro on the opening track damned understanding could have come right off a Nick Drake album.
1) You`ve been resident in the UK now for six years or more, what do you miss most about the States and your home town of Rhode Island ?
Of course I miss my family quite a lot, but I go home as much as I can. Rhode is a rather quiet little place by the sea, and I do miss being near the water. But many of the towns and villages in England remind me of home. In a way, the lifestyle there is very similar to what it's like here.
2) With the enormous support for country music in the States, London seems a strange place to pursue your career - why London?
I moved to London to take a teaching post, and I really love my job. I didn't really move here with the intention of making records... it just happened that way.
3) You`ve mentioned that Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash are big influences for you, when did you first get into country music, can you explain the attraction?
